The 'Big Stick' Visits Portsmouth
The worlds largest war ship, The USS Theodore
Roosevelt (a.k.a. 'The Big Stick') was anchored off Stokes
Bay in Gosport.
Visiting American war ships have now become something of a
tradition to the Portsmouth area, but due to their size they
are unable to enter Portsmouth Harbour as this can only
provide a water depth of 9 metres, The Big Stick requires 11
metres. This mighty
vessel was in town from Saturday 4th April until Wednesday
8th April when it departed our shores once again.
