Newsweek first went 'on-air' on September
22nd 1993. This was presented by Rob Thomas and current
presenter of the programme, Chris Pearce. It started as a
'news review' programme. Reviewing the weeks news from the
National Tabloids and local papers. It was a chance for
patients to catch up what has been going on locally and
indeed nationally in the outside world of the Hospital.
Shortly afterwards in October of 1993, Newsweek, with the
help of former Ocean Sound Presenter, Rob Thomas to expand
the programme further. This we did by interviewing local
people from within the Gosport Area. Such as local
politicians, community leaders and local businesses. It also
featured local celebrities too. Including Fred Dinenage from
local news programme 'Meridian Tonight', Comedian, Brian
Conley, and local weatherman, Carl Tyler from Meridian. We
also went back stage at the Kings Theatre, Southsea and
interviewed the cast of the Christmas Panto in 1997/1998
which included actor, George Sewell, Comedian, Aidan J
Harvey and former 'Gladiator', Thunder!!
Newsweek also made history. We broadcast 'live' from the
local count at the General Election of 1997, providing live
interviews with Political candidates which included local
MP, Peter Viggers.
Due to other commitments, Rob Thomas left the programme and
request presenter Jean Hague took over. Jean has since left
the station and Chris now presents the show solo, continuing to interview
the people making the headlines.
Another first, as of March 21st 2007 Newsweek
has begun Podcasting the featured guests on the webisite.
Digital downloads of a number of interviews will be
available shortly after their original air date.
Newsweek is always looking for local news and different
people from all walks of life to interview. So if you have a
story to tell or would like to promote your charitable
organisation or group or even hobby, and live in Gosport or
Fareham, then please get in touch.
